AED Awareness
The American Heart Association claims that CPR done in conjunction with an Automatic external defibrillator increases the survival rate of somebody in cardiac arrest by fifty percent. There are a couple of a reasons for this. First, an AED will respond immediately. Generally, an irregular heart rhythm needs to be corrected immediately. If it is not, it is lethal. That is why that often by the time medical responders reach the patient, it is too late. They simply cannot travel enough to apply the life-saving measures when there is a cardiac arrest. Second, though the AED will not restart a stopped heart, it will give the heart enough of an electric jolt that it will self-correct itself. That could be enough to stop a cardiac arrest before it even has the chance to start. It is safe and automatic, and since it is external, it doesn’t require any sort of invasive surgery for life saving measures.
As a result of these facts, it is imperative to increase AED awareness. Many people do not know what an AED is, how it is used, who would use it, and why one is used. People who have certain heart diseases should be educated with AED awareness because it could save their life one day. Even people who are not currently ill need to worry about AED information because a friend or a loved one might have use for more. The fact is, the more people who know about automatic external defibrillators, the better the chances of people surviving cardiac episodes.
