Defibrillator Implants

Thanks to continuously improving technology in the medical device industry we can now look forward to even greater success at treating a wider variety of health risks and problems. One of the areas of most rapid and comprehensive growth are defibrillator implants. While the heart can feature some very complex issues that can go wrong, oftentimes fortunately all that is needed is actually a simple jolt of electricity. These implants do just that, delivering a very safe and highly controlled electrical current. This electrical current is successful at breaking a heart’s abnormal heart beat, also known as arrhythmia. It can correct both heart beats that are too slow as well as heart beats that are too slow, breaking the irregular rhythm and getting it back on track to a healthy beat again.

And there are actually quite a few different models of defibrillators so it is important to note the main distinction of these particular defibrillators. They are actually implanted beneath the skin of the chest. This way, their close proximity to the heart then allows them to monitor the electrical activity of the heart.

In the case of a life threatening change in the rhythm of the heart, arrhythmia, this special implant will then send a small pulse of electricity to the heart. If this smaller dose does not effectively help the heart regain a normal rhythm it then delivers a higher energy shock to the heart to return it to a normal heart rhythm.
