Emergency medicine is the field of medicine that deals with emergency situation. The first responders for 911 are in emergency medicine, and the doctors and nurses inside the emergency room are as well. Given the number of heart attacks in the nation, these emergency responders need to be well versed in cardiovascular issues, cardiovascular disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and cardiac episodes. They need to know how to use and read EKG machines, how to use defibrillators, and how to respond a variety of identified and unidentified issues. Know how to use and how to read machines that measure heart beats or that affect heart rates is absolutely critical to a job in the emergency medical field.

It’s also critical for understand what happens with emergency care and how it can impact your life, or the life of a loved one. If you or somebody you love suffers from chest pains or other warning signs of heart attack or cardiac episodes, it’s important to understand just what the emergency doctors can and cannot do to help you or save your life. Similarly, if you or a loved one is in a high risk group or you or a loved one have a known heart ailment, it’s also important to know what you can look forward to and what other problems there might be in treating you, diagnosing you, or curing you. Also remember that the professionals in the emergency field are not necessarily specialists. Their job is to stabilize, if not diagnose, before moving you to the specialists or the OR.
