Defibrillators

Internal Defibrillators

While there seems to be an awful lot of illness and disease around the world we can all at least rest a little easier knowing that there are new advancements in medical technology arising at a fantastic rate. One of the most common health issues that often comes up is sudden heart failure or irregular heart beats. One example of a medical device that has come a very long way to provide a reliable solution to sudden heart failure is the cardiac defibrillator. Nowadays, there is a wide variety of defibrillators and one of the specific types that has proven to be especially helpful are the internal defibrillators.

Defibrillation is the definitive treatment for the life threatening cardiac arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia. Internal defibrillation models are placed under the skin on the chest above the heart. Leads from the device are then actually placed in direct contact with the heart. This allows the device to monitor the heart, so that if the heart beat starts to become too slow or too fast the defibrillator then automatically sends an electric current to the heart to help it regain a normal and healthy sinus rhythm, essentially jumpstarting your heart back into a healthy pattern.

These internal models are necessary for individual who suffer from persistent heart conditions and are almost constantly at risk for sudden heart failure. Otherwise, for less persistent and less severe heart condition cases, external defibrillators are usually the best option to be used for the patient.
